Monstera XL - With Pot

Monstera, especially Monstera deliciosa, is a popular houseplant known for its large, unique, split leaves. Here’s how to care for your Monstera:

1. Light:

      •      Bright, indirect light is ideal for a Monstera. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light can cause leggy growth and fewer leaf splits. A spot near an east- or south-facing window works well.

2. Watering:

      •      Water your Monstera when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. Stick your finger into the soil to check.

      •      Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain out. Make sure the pot has drainage holes to avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

      •      Reduce watering in the winter when the plant’s growth slows down.

3. Humidity:

      •      Monstera prefers moderate to high humidity. If the air in your home is dry, especially in winter, consider misting the leaves, using a humidifier, or placing a water-filled pebble tray near the plant.

4. Temperature:

      •      Monstera grows best in temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 55°F (13°C) or cold drafts, as they can damage the plant.

5. Soil:

      •      Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix for tropical plants, or a combination of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark, will allow proper drainage and aeration.

6. Fertilization:

      •      Feed your Monstera with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Skip fertilizing during fall and winter when the plant is dormant or grows slowly.

7. Support:

      •      As Monstera plants grow, they may need support to climb. Use a moss pole or a trellis for the aerial roots to latch onto, helping them grow upright and display their fenestrated leaves.

8. Pruning:

      •      Trim any damaged or yellowing leaves using sterilized scissors. You can also prune the plant to control its size and encourage fuller growth.

9. Repotting:

      •      Repot every 1-2 years or when the roots start to outgrow the pot. Monstera prefers being slightly root-bound, so don’t rush to repot it unless necessary.

10. Cleaning:

      •      Dust can accumulate on Monstera leaves, blocking sunlight and reducing photosynthesis. Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them clean and healthy.

By following these care tips, your Monstera will thrive and develop those iconic split leaves!
